The Website Utility – Finds Errors, Other Issues on Websites
Downloading this Winnersh Triangle Web Solutions Limited-developed piece of software will only take a moment – which is nice. The download weighs in at some 3MB, so even on a lousy internet connection the download will complete in no time at all.
Once downloaded onto your computer, you will like the fact that the installation process goes smoothly and swiftly – just like the download. Speaking of the installation process, The Website Utility should work without a problem on all versions of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system – which is also nice.
What is not nice is the fact that to take advantage of the application’s full functionality you have to pay for the full version. The demo version can be used free of charge, but you have to contend with some drawbacks and nuisances. On the drawbacks front we have bits like: only the first 8 uncovered problems are displayed, HTML source code pages only show the first 50 lines of the page’s HTML, only the most frequent 50 words in the website appear in the JavaScript search feature. On the nuisance front you have the following: JavaScript popups on some report pages.
Getting back to what’s nice about The Website Utility, we have to mention the applicaton's functionality. This Winnersh Triangle Web Solutions Limited-developed piece of software goes over a website, collects data, and creates reports. These reports can be then used to correct errors on the site, or to optimize the site for search engines.
The error reporting features finds broken links, links pointing to content that has moved to another location, missing or duplicated page titles, missing description and keywords meta tags, underutilized FrameSets.
The search engine optimization feature comes with the following functionality: shows pages with too little or too much content, identifies pages with too much JavaScript, search engine crawler emulation mode shows a search engine's web robot view of a website, shows the numbers of internal hyperlinks to each page.
